Discount Calculator

How the discount is calculated

The discount amount is price × discount % ÷ 100. A second discount is applied on the reduced price, and tax is added at the end on the discounted price.

Using it for shopping

Compare sale offers, check festival discounts, or find out what a "buy now, 30% off plus 10% extra" deal really costs.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a discount?

Multiply the price by the discount percentage and divide by 100. Subtract that amount from the price. For example, 20% off 1,000 saves 200, so you pay 800.

Is a second discount added to the first?

No. The second discount is applied on the already reduced price. 20% then 10% is a total of 28% off, not 30%.

Is tax added before or after the discount?

Tax is normally charged on the price after discount. This tool adds the tax percentage to the discounted price.

Can I find the final price after discount?

Yes. Enter the original price and discount % to see the discount amount and the price you pay.

Can I add GST or tax?

Yes. Enter a tax % and it is added on the discounted price, which is how bills are normally made.

How do I compare two offers?

Calculate each offer separately and compare the final prices. A bigger percentage on a higher price is not always the cheaper deal.
